Is Secondary Glazing Right for You?

If you are considering getting double-glazing for your property, there is usually a range of driving factors behind this decision. Perhaps you are struggling with the local noise pollution, or perhaps you want your home to become more energy-efficient.

Also known as a retrofit double-glazing solution, secondary glazing in Perth can help you reap some of the same benefits as double-glazing, without having to pay out a significant sum of money in the process.

Here are the technical elements of a secondary glazing installation from Quash.

  • We form an air gap of between 70-100mm between your existing and secondary window. This large space between the panels mimics a cushion-effect which when encapsulated between two glass panels of varying thickness; further helps to reduce the noise.
  • With robust weather seals on each side of the sash, any noise infiltration is significantly reduced.
  • In most cases, a minimum reduction of at least 50% is attained, which can account for a 10-decibel drop. When compared with other noise reduction solutions, such as low-quality double-glazed units, roller shutters, and heavier/thicker glass; and which can usually only provide a 20% reduction, secondary glazing delivers incomparable results, at a fraction of the cost.

At Quash, we are proud to offer expert secondary glazing solutions that are high-quality, without any compromise on affordability.

How Can Secondary Glazing Help?

As soundproofing experts with decades of collective experience, Quash is experts in providing and installing secondary glazing solutions throughout Perth. A secondary level of glazing can be easily added on to almost any single-glazed window or even onto existing glass doors.

#1 Hassle-Free, Fast Installations

Secondary Glazing is quick and easy to install. With the vast majority of windows, it can be installed within the hour. With double-glazing, you need to completely remove the existing window and fit completely new units. This results in higher costs and longer installation time.
At Quash, we will retrofit the secondary glazing internally to your existing window frame. Our ultimate goal is to provide you with a quick installation that causes the least possible disruption to your time.

  • No need to remove existing windows or frames.
  • Installations are quicker and easier.
  • Most individual windows can be completed within an hour.

  • Time consuming
  • Costly
  • Involves a complete replacement of existing windows

#2 Outstanding Soundproofing Capabilities

As one of Perth’s leading soundproofing experts, we are confident that a secondary glazing installation will help you reduce external noises by as much as 50-70%. By creating the largest possible air space between your existing window and the secondary glazing panel, this delivers the most noticeable results. Our double acoustic seals and robust laminated safety glass add to the effectiveness of our secondary glazing solutions.

  • Reduce noise between 50-70%.
  •  The secondary panel of glass is a different thickness and can be placed between 70-100mm away from the existing panel.
  • Twice as effective as double-glazing.

  • Only reduces noise by up to 20%.
  • Uses two individual panes of glass that are each separated by approximately 5-20mm.

#3 Cost-Effective Soundproofing Solution

When people consider the options for soundproofing their homes, double-glazing is usually one of the first things that are considered. With secondary glazing, the whole process can be carried out a much lower cost when compared with double-glazing solutions, and there is absolutely no question of the effectiveness this installation provides. Because the installation is quicker, the relative costs are much lower.

  • Less labor involved in fitting secondary glazing to a property,
  • Due to the energy savings that are realized over the years, the cost of the installation and the product can be expected to be recovered with ease.

  • Not inexpensive.
  • Initial cost of materials higher
  • Installation requires removal of existing windows and frames;
  • Added time element also results in higher labor costs.

#4 Added Insulation Capacity

While most people get secondary glazing for soundproofing reasons, they also come with the added bonus of delivering better thermal insulation for your property. The measure of this effectiveness adds up to almost 50% in heat loss reduction and gain. When the finances are accounted for, the cost of buying secondary glazing solutions Vs. the money saved in energy expenses make it a sound investment, that will easily pay for itself in time.

  • Uses a specialist seal that helps to reduce heat loss and retain heat by as much as 50%.
  • Conserves energy usage in your home.

  • Better insulation compared to a single pane
  • Not as efficient as secondary glazing.

When I first started investigating sound absorption, I phoned around to three companies, two of which were over east and they recommended I call Nigel after learning we were based in Perth. After speaking with Quash I could see why they came so highly recommended, they are clearly experts in the product and were able to suggest a quick and cost effective solution for the sound issue in our retail store. Customer service was fantastic and I will definitely use Quash services again.

The staff at quash are fantastic, you really can't fault their customer service, knowledge and field workers. Their pricing was also very competitive for arguably a better product then something like magnetite. Initial impressions are that our neighbour noise issue is now resolved and the product and finish of the window looks like it was always there. The only thing I overlooked in the process was the need to relocate the blind, as it's now out of the window recess it's not as effective as it once was and now that the noise is solved I have a light issue :). At any rate I think it will be an easy fix as there is room to squeeze a aluminium Venetian between the two windows so that's now on my DIY list. The folk at quash are very knowledgable so if you have a noise problem definitely consider them.
